JPMorgan Names Winners of FantasyFutures Asia Pacific Trading Game

Singapore ’s Nanyang Technological University Student Claims Asia Pacific Grand Prize in The Simulated Trading Competition

After 9 weeks of studying the markets and simulating trades, LIU CHENGZHENG a 3rd year student in Bioengineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore , claimed the grand prize in JPMorgan Investment Bank’s Asia Pacific FantasyFuturesä game. Between October 1 and November 30, 2007, Liu earned the greatest overall profit in the region, beating more than 4,400 students across the 4 participating locations of Singapore , Hong Kong, China & India .

Liu won an expense-paid trip to JPMorgan’s New York trading floor.  He will also join the other 11 top location winners from Singapore , Hong Kong, China & India for a “Day-in-bank” program in the JPMorgan’s Hong Kong office and a dinner reception with senior business representatives.

In Europe, Li Li, a 4th year student at the London School of Economics, was the grand prize winner, and Duncan Wong, a 2nd year graduate student in Financial Engineering at Cornell University won the U.S. competition.

JPMorgan’s FantasyFuturesä, the nine-week online interactive trading simulation game, was launched in Europe & US in previous years, and has attracted students eager to gain hands-on experience in financial trading.  Fall 2007 was the first season we introduced the game to Asia Pacific, taking part in this global competition. It’s a unique online trading game that let competing students act like traders as they tackle markets and take risks. It’s the perfect way to get to know our business. To play, students use “fantasy” money to create and manage simulated trading accounts where they take a view on interest rate moves in the global markets.

The fall 2007 contest was participated by more than 9,000 students in separate U.S. , Asia and Europe competitions.  For Asia Pacific alone, there were more than 4,400 students registered to play.

“ The best part about playing FantastyFutures was the excitement… the ever changing market price and all the hard work you need to do for the right predictions,” said Liu who actually started playing the game in the 4th week. What is Liu’s top tip for future players? He advises to pay extra attention to the central banks’ monetary policies: “I often visit their websites to gather whatever information I would get to help to determine how the price of the contracts would be affected.”
