What might you be doing?

With different laws for different countries, our Legal and Compliance teams plays an absolutely vital function to the firm across the whole region. They're also an important factor in our ability to deliver expert local knowledge to our clients.

You will be joining a dynamic team with exposure to a worldwide network of legal and compliance professionals. Coverage includes the broad and diverse landscape of regulatory environments across Asia Pacific. We bring together the best from a diverse Asian Pacific talent pool to create a 'centre of excellence', which is shaping the way business is conducted on a global level.

Legal

We have offices in all the region's principal jurisdictions Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, China, India, Taiwan and Korea. Our lawyers are at the very heart of our operation. Join them and you'll enjoy exposure to every part of our business. Their role is wide ranging in the extreme. Their responsibilities include drafting legal documents, negotiating terms with external parties, providing strategic legal advice, reviewing agreements and liaising with external counsels. They also work closely with colleagues from other corporate functions, such as Compliance, Finance and Tax.

With operations in so many countries across the region, ensuring that we don't deviate from local laws, regulations, industry rules and corporate policies is a complicated affair.

Compliance

The importance of Compliance cannot be underestimated. We provide advice on regulatory issues and on the potential impact of new regulations; we develop new policies and procedures; we train our colleagues in business areas so that they're kept abreast of what's happening; we assess and monitor the effectiveness of new business procedures; and we liaise with regulators and law enforcement agencies to ensure transparency in our dealings and open relationships in this ever-changing regulatory landscape.

Fostering a culture of compliance is essential for the success of the business as whole. At a strategic level, this means working closely with senior management, the legal departments and the other advisory and control functions, such as Tax, Finance and Business Management. On a more day-to-day basis, it means our people develop a unique understanding of the way the whole firm works. Knowledge of banking products and operations is therefore paramount. It's just as important to build strong, reciprocal relationships across multiple businesses, locations and support functions.

To be able to assist the lines of business to identify the compliance risks and to offer them solutions, whilst not compromising Legal and Compliance's independence and integrity.

Be Proactive

Take a proactive role by getting involved in new business discussions, markets, deal meetings and new product approvals. To keep in touch with lines of businesses, developments and integrate themselves into the business planning and deal management process.

Partnership

To work closely with the businesses' staff and management, and with other support functions including Internal Audit, Credit and Risk Management, as well as with other counterparts in the America's, Europe and the Middle East. 

Continuous Education

To ensure that they continue to possess the necessary skills, technical/product knowledge, qualifications and experience in order to effectively execute their compliance duties.
