During your time on the Operations and Business Services program, you will have the opportunity to experience a number of different roles in functions such as: Client Services, Trade Support/Risk Analysis or Project Analyst.  Any of these roles could exist in one or more of our lines of business: Investment Banking, Credit & Rate Markets, Equities, Investment Management, Private Banking or Treasury & Securities Services.

OPERATIONS

Client Services

This type of role requires you to manage the requirements of different internal and external clients and partnerships with colleagues in the front office, CFOs, back office, Market Risk, and Technology. Responsibilities include responding and reacting to urgent electronic trading issues and delivering integrated, seamless and business focused electronic trading services to clients, using efficient technology solutions. As well as supporting the execution desks and clients you would also be required to manage trade settlements and investigate and resolve any trades which have failed to be processed.

Trade Support/Risk Analysis

You could be providing trade support as a book runner within fixed income. This is a dynamic role since processes are continually improved or reinvented to cope with the ever-changing intricacies of systems, products and markets. You will need particularly strong communication skills as you will be working with colleagues throughout transaction life-cycles in a fast-paced environment. You will be required to produce daily profit and loss figures and positions for the traders and verify any new trades whilst maintaining existing trade portfolios. You will also act as a point of contact for any queries or problems which may arise and strive to deliver reports and/or solutions. Part of your role may also require you to create and consolidate reports for Senior Management including monitoring market risk limits and then implementing new processes.

Project Analyst

Within Operations and Business Services you might tackle a short term project for the internal management consultancy team. As Project Analyst you may be accountable for developing industry initiatives within a business or across businesses, such as electronic trading, prime brokerage or settlement netting. Alternatively you could lead a project to review the business indicators within Treasury & Securities Services. Not only would you become familiar with the intricacies of the operation of the business, you would also fundamentally influence the key drivers in terms of quality, performance and risk. Or you might join our accounting team, undertaking a research project to determine trends and patterns in account balances. Your task would not be complete until you had identified ways to add direct value to our ability to predict the end-of-day account position, and until you had persuaded the team to accept your ideas.

BUSINESS SERVICES

As well as these specific line-of-business roles within Operations there are also opportunities for you to work within the firm's strategic functions. These functions exist within what we refer to corporately as Business Services and include Audit, Legal & Compliance, Marketing & Communications and Human Resources.

Can you do this?

This kind of environment demands people who are intellectually curious and who can demonstrate creativity with a business mindset. As you will be joining us at a time of growth, innovation and product development you need to be flexible, both geographically and professionally, able to anticipate problems, be prepared with solutions, drive change and strive for excellence.
We seek people with a wide range of skills and backgrounds, who possess disciplined analytical and problem-solving skills, who are persuasive communicators and excellent team workers. Teamwork and partnership are critical to our success because they add more value. We are looking for people who have the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people and different styles, to initiate and embrace new ideas, manage risk dynamically and adapt easily to changing circumstances. Early responsibility is given to those who have the confidence to accept it.
