Global Credit Risk Management

What might you be doing?

When we generate revenue through lending, trading and capital markets activity, there's always the risk that the return on our investment won't be what we expect. We don't like surprises. Neither do our clients. Our Risk Managers see to it that there aren't any unwelcome disclosures. There are two main groups with Credit Risk Management in Asia: Credit Risk Management itself and Credit Portfolio Group.

As an intern in Global Credit Risk Management (GCRM) you'll develop expertise in assessing and managing the risks of both loan products, traded and operating products. You'll have the opportunity to experience a trading environment, the excitement of transaction execution, discuss use of the bank's capital, perform in-depth reviews of various industries, contribute to setting strategies to reduce the firm's overall credit exposure and analyse credit risks on an industry, client and transactional basis.

You will work in small teams alongside senior professionals and as such will develop a network of contacts across the business. You will be required to present your findings, articulate your opinions and offer your solution to the issue in hand. Active participation in these processes will be a pre-requisite to success.

Can you do this?

You obviously need a proven academic background, but because of the diversity of roles and the nature of the job, you could come from any background, such as economics, law, finance and accounting as well as the more traditional arts and sciences.

You will need to be flexible enough to cope with change and have lots of energy and enthusiasm. You will also need to possess excellent analytical skills, be able to communicate extremely well and have an eye for detail. You will need to be able to interpret any information you receive, have the confidence to question it and, if necessary, restructure the proposal and provide a solution which is acceptable to the firm, the client and the market place as a whole. Your ability to write concise and well-reasoned reports which explain and justify your results is essential.

You will be required to work both as part of a team and individually without undue supervision, to anticipate what is required and be proactive rather than reactive. With many conflicting calls on your time you will need to manage your own work effectively and efficiently and constantly communicate your progress.

As business is primarily conducted in English, verbal and written fluency in English is essential.
