The business areas:

Equities

With a dedicated equities team in Asia of over 400 executives covering equity sales, trading, execution, research and equity derivatives, J.P. Morgan offers the broadest reach and innovative solutions to its equities clients with strong local execution capability in all major exchanges in Asia. There are two sides to the business, Cash Equities and Equity Derivatives

Cash Equities is split into three core groups: Trades, Sales Traders and Sales people who execute services and market our research ideas to clients. Our investor client base is truly global, and we sell and trade European, US, Latin American and Asian Pacific equities.

Equity Derivatives provide solutions which allow our clients to benefit from movements in the equity market without having to actually buy the share itself. We structure market products and offer investment alternatives through other financial derivatives.

J.P. Morgan was awarded by the Asia Risk magazine as the Equity Derivatives House of the Year as well as by IFR Asia as the Structured Equity House for four consecutive years.

Asia Emerging Markets

Spanning 12 countries and six time zones, each team of experts is finely attuned to the markets of their individual country. Our understanding of different cultures means we’re uniquely positioned to bring a world’s worth of support to a local level. We are the market leader in credit, rates and foreign exchange markets, providing issuers and investors in the region with first-class derivative solutions. The Asia Emerging Markets team has built strong footprints in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Australia.

Credit & Rates

Broadly speaking, the Credit group focuses on debt for corporations and their derivatives by delivering relevant solutions and world-class execution capabilities. The Rates group is largely concerned with government debt and interest rates driven by macro-economic factors such as growth, inflation and government budget policies. The group makes markets, provides risk management solutions and arranges financing to support corporations, financial institutions and governments.

J.P. Morgan’s robust trading strategies, innovative solutions and dedicated sales and marketing force have enabled the firm to grow its businesses more than three-fold in the past two years, outperforming the competition in the region. J.P. Morgan was awarded by Finance Asia Best Fixed Income House as well as the Credit Derivatives House in 2007.

Commodities

The team specializes in trading, structuring and principal investing of metal and energy products, and brings a wealth of experience in rich management solutions that meet the increasing demands of institutional and corporate clients in Asia.

Currencies
The Currencies group is responsible for the sale of FX (Foreign Exchange) products such as Currencies and FX Options.

Placements
As an Analyst or Associate you are typically placed in one of the following areas:

In Sales you help maintain relationships with institutional investors, and match our services and products to their needs. You work with Trading and Research teams to provide comprehensive client coverage, including fulfilling client requests for market updates, executing client orders and providing institutional clients with information about specific securities. You may also provide marketing ideas and help initiate transactions. You will be placed in a Commodity, Asia Emerging Markets, Equity or Currencies product group.

In Trading you help senior traders cover institutional accounts and make markets in your group's particular range of products. You will assist the senior traders in managing risk, liquidity and exposure and you may support all aspects of the trading desk: pre-trade analysis, research on index constituent changes, inbound and outbound trade processing and the design of optimal strategies for large trades. Tracking supply and demand, you constantly evaluate market developments in order to give clients accurate product information. You will be placed in a Equity, Commodity, Asia Emerging Markets or Currencies product group.

In Structuring you help create customized investment strategies using conventional cash and derivative credit products. You will learn to structure complex products in unique ways and will use creativity to come up with new products to match the needs of clients. You will work closely with Sales and Trading desks to understand the spectrum of how the process works from product origination to its actual trade on the market. You will be placed in a Equity or Asia Emerging Markets product group.

In Markets Research you perform quantitative analysis to develop relative-value trade ideas for clients and internal trading desks. You will be placed in a Equity, Commodity, Asia Emerging Markets, or Currencies product group.
