Culture & Inclusiveness
Eventually it all comes down to people.
'Eventually it all comes down to people. Creating a winning team and self-sustaining culture takes hard work, and there is no substitute for it. Teams do not win because they have a new stadium or the best uniforms. Some of the best teams do not even have the best individual athletes. Teams win because they are disciplined, they work well together, they execute consistently and they have a passion to win.'
Jamie Dimon, CEO JPMorgan Chase. Our Business Principles, May 31, 2007.
It's a good start, but how can we describe the culture we're so proud of with just a few words? After all, it's not the words on the page that will convince you. It's about the way you feel when you enter a building. It's the people who take time to say hello and are interested in answering your questions. It's about respecting the people you work with; about knowing they're there when you need their support and that they’re willing to listen to your opinions.
We will also work to maintain a culture of doing first-class business in a first-class way, one that is driven by performance, partnership, meritocracy, inclusion, and directness.
Performance
Perform to the highest standards and at optimum efficiency for our clients and our shareholders. We strive to win all business we seek. Our employees act and think like owners.
Partnership
Succeed and fail together. We seek people who work well in a partnership environment to ensure our clients fully realize the benefits of our broad global platform. Those who are successful do not think in terms of silos, regions or products - they think about the success of our clients and the whole firm.
Meritocracy
Our people should reach their full potential, advance and be rewarded based solely on their capability and character.
Inclusion
Treat all colleagues with respect. We believe different perspectives and experiences bring strength and creativity to our work and lead to development of the best solutions for our clients. Diversity is defined differently throughout the world, and as a global company we think of diversity broadly to be inclusive of all cultures, backgrounds, styles, ethnicities, religions, lifestyles and sexual orientations.
Directness
We expect all employees to deliver candid, constructive, consistent feedback in real time to their colleagues at all levels. Not communicating directly denies colleagues a chance to grow and develop their careers.
We know that the people at JPMorgan are some of the most smart, down-to-earth and friendly in the business. We know how common it is for us to work together with a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
We are deeply committed to cultivating an inclusive environment where everyone can succeed based on merit. We are only as successful as our people, and we want to draw from the broadest, smartest talent pool in the world. We believe no barrier should inhibit an individual from performing to her or his full potential. These, and other, aspects of our culture enable creativity and entrepreneurship to thrive. It draws the best talent to JPMorgan and enables people to contribute, advance, succeed, and be rewarded based solely on their capability and character.
